FARO CREAFORM, a business of AMETEK, Inc. and global provider of 3D Scanning and portable CMM Solutions, announces the launch of MetraSCAN BLACK2, a next-generation portable metrology-grade optical 3D scanner engineered to deliver total inspection flexibility on the shop floor. Designed for quality control and quality assurance teams, MetraSCAN BLACK2 combines certified accuracy under real-world conditions with the ability to support multiple inspection workflows in a single solution.

MetraSCAN BLACK2 introduces a 3-in-1 architecture that combines C-Track scanning, stand-alone scanning, and probing in a single metrology-grade system. In C-Track mode, manufacturers can perform high-productivity inspection of large parts, while the stand-alone mode enables maximum portability and quick in/out deployments in tighter areas. And when paired with HandyPROBE™, it supports probing inspections within the same workflow.

The new system delivers significant productivity gains, featuring 46 blue laser lines, up to 2.8 million measurements per second, and approximately 56% faster data acquisition than the previous generation. Its C‑Track Flex Volume reaches 46.7 m³, three times larger than before, allowing larger parts to be inspected with fewer setups.  The system also improves usability with new automatic shutter functionality, single-cable connectivity, and setup assistance tools.

Compared with MetraSCAN BLACK+ and BLACK+ Elite, MetraSCAN BLACK2 brings greater portability through true stand-alone scanning and increases productivity by enabling parallel scanning and probing. It also delivers increased speed and data density, greater inspection flexibility across part sizes and setups, and improved simplicity and reliability through enhanced connectivity and automation features. It is tested in ISO/IEC 17025-accredited calibration laboratories, with acceptance testing based on ISO 10360 and VDI/VDE 2634 Part 3.

“MetraSCAN BLACK2 was developed to give manufacturers a more adaptable inspection solution without compromising certified accuracy,” said Olivier Plamondon, Technical Product Manager at FARO CREAFORM. “By combining C-Track scanning, stand-alone scanning, and probing in a single metrology-grade system, we are helping quality teams work more efficiently across a broader range of parts and shop-floor conditions.”

With MetraSCAN BLACK2, FARO CREAFORM continues to advance portable metrology by delivering solutions that combine certified performance, productivity, and real-world usability for today’s manufacturing environments.
