Sriperumbudur, India: iAM3D has announced the launch of the LPW Z2500, a large-format, multi-axis laser Directed Energy Deposition (DED) Additive Manufacturing system aimed at accelerating advanced metal manufacturing across space technology, aerospace, defence, oil & gas, heavy engineering and research.

The new platform brings powder-fed and wire-fed laser DED capabilities into a single machine, giving manufacturers greater flexibility in material selection, deposition strategies and component development. Its integrated BEAM SWITCH is designed to enable rapid changeover between the two material-feed modes.

With a substantial 2000 × 2000 × 2500 mm build envelope, the LPW Z2500 targets the production and repair of large, complex metal components. Its fully enclosed argon chamber architecture is designed to support reactive and aerospace-grade materials, including titanium, Inconel, tantalum and other refractory alloys.

A high-power fibre laser system, combined with optimised material delivery, is engineered to deliver high deposition rates for large-part manufacturing and demanding heavy-industry applications. This positions the platform for applications where conventional manufacturing can face limitations in component size, material utilisation and production flexibility.

Real-Time Monitoring Meets AI-Enabled Process Development

The LPW Z2500 incorporates an integrated process-monitoring ecosystem featuring HDR melt-pool imaging, pyrometer feedback and live process diagnostics. These capabilities are intended to help operators monitor deposition behaviour in real time and improve process stability and repeatability.

The machine also incorporates Machine Learning Software and a Process Library, supporting faster development and optimisation of additive manufacturing processes and prototypes.

According to iAM3D, the LPW Z2500 is capable of processing metal AM alloys available in either powder or wire form, with particular emphasis on high-performance titanium, nickel and refractory alloys.

With its combination of large build volume, dual-feed DED capability, high deposition rates, in-process monitoring and machine-learning-enabled process development, the LPW Z2500 represents a significant step toward large-scale metal additive manufacturing for India’s strategic and industrial sectors.

3D GRAPHY NEWS VIEW: The growing availability of large-format DED platforms such as the LPW Z2500 highlights the industry’s shift from prototyping toward production, repair, remanufacturing and near-net-shape manufacturing of large, high-value metal components—an important direction for India’s aerospace, defence, space-tech and heavy-engineering ambitions.
